Carry out specific tasks, which are required for effective and efficient patient care in a pre-hospital setting, and/or on intra-facility transfers. Promote courteous and professional interactions with co-workers, patients and other professionals. Enhance the company’s reputation, help promote a smooth working relationship between management and employees and maintain company equipment. Administer medical treatment and transport sick or injured persons to a medical facility or between medical facilities, working as a member of an emergency medical team. Respond professionally to instructions from the dispatcher and safely drive a specially equipped emergency vehicle to specific locations. Monitor communication equipment to maintain contact with the dispatcher. Determine the nature and magnitude of any given incident, accident or disaster and the need for additional assistance. Remove or assist in removal of a patient from the scene of an accident or incident. This may include, but is not limited to heavy lifting, pulling, pushing, bending, crawling and climbing. Determine the nature and extent of a patient’s illness or in jury and establish treatment consistent with state licensure and local protocols. Assist treatment center admitting personnel in obtaining record information related to patient’s vital statistics and circumstances of emergency transfer. Replenish medical equipment and supplies as needed. Ensure vehicle and equipment is clean at all times. May assist in controlling crowds, protecting valuables, or performing other duties at the scene of an accident. May assist medical personal in emergency treatment at medical facility by initiating any basic life support procedures as defined by the Ohio and Kentucky Department of Public Safety and under the direction of a physician. Must be receptive to medical control facility judgment requesting treatment of all patients and follow their judgment. Must communicate with medical personnel at any emergency treatment facility to obtain instructions regarding further treatment of the patient. This communication must be in accordance with the local protocols. Must portray a professional and neat appearance. Must follow all KDMT standard operating procedures/policies. Respond to all runs with optimal response times, work expediently to assure availability of vehicle, and perform in such a manner as to maximize vehicle utilization and productivity. Must administer medical treatment in a caring and compassionate manner thus promoting positive public relations for KDMT. Must maintain confidentiality of all patient, employee and corporate records and information. Maintain work area (vehicle & station) in a clean and safe manner. Abide by KDMT current Bloodborne Pathogen Plan. Carry out other related duties as assigned. Complete a minimum of 24 hours of ride time with Field Training Officer consisting of 12 hours dedicated truck, 12 hours non-dedicated truck and meet all criteria satisfactorily during orientation.
Must maintain skill level and Continuing Education as required by local Medical Control Authorities and the Ohio and or Kentucky Department of Public Safety. Licensed as an EMT by the Ohio and or Kentucky Department of Public Safety. Must be in a physical condition that allows the employee to lift, carry, pull, push and otherwise maneuver heavy patients (at least 125 lbs. / 250 lbs. between two people) bend, crawl, and climb. Work outside in all types of weather common to Southeastern Ohio and Northern Kentucky. On a regular basis in order to remove patients from scenes. Must be able to write and speak English fluently and clearly. Valid Drivers License and eligibility for driving privileges based on current policy.
While performing the duties of this job the team member is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms: climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The team member must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
