Provides healthcare services by utilizing high frequency sound waves for medical purposes. The Ultrasonographer is competent in the production, utilization, recognition, and analysis of ultrasound images and patterns used for patient diagnosis and treatment. Ultrasonographers are responsible for the conduct and quality of the examination in a variety of medical settings. Sonographers exercise discretion and judgement in the performance of sonographic services in providing appropriate healthcare services. The individual must be knowledgeable in the health care system, pertinent clinical and instrumentation, normal anatomy and pathological variants. Adheres to the scope of practice as defined by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. Performs ultrasound procedures. (Abdominal, retroperitoneal, OB/GYN, Doppler, Color Doppler Neurosonography, and Vascular sonography. Consults with referring physician regarding patient's previous history and decision of appropriate ultrasonic procedures required. Provides technical aide for surgical biopsy and aspiration procedures, maintains a sterile field while assisting physician by opening sterile needles, syringes, appropriate procedure trays, and scanning in a sterile field with sterile gel. Provides patient education instruction in writing and verbally. Will cross-train to assist in other areas as needed.
Graduate of JRCERT accredited program. Certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and/or ARRT and State Certification as required, or certification eligible.
AHA BLS required.
While performing the duties of this job the team member is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms: climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The team member must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
